I have a Scovy hen that I thought was going broody but I don't think so anymore. Everyday she goes out with the others but at night she jumps in one of my broody boxes and sits on or next to one of my setting hens. Oh and every time I go into the nesting area she follows me in then attempts to jump in a nest (which I don't let her do). So what the heck is up with her? Does she just wanna sleep in a nest? My other scovies all sleep outside and she used to as well. What the heck???

Scovies are cavity nesters. They also DO like to sleep in a cubby much of the time. One of the problems I found with our first Scovy house was that it provided four nice big nesting boxes (enough room for mom & a passel of ducklings) ...but no roosting area. All our ducklings as well as any adults that could fit in the nest boxes, slept in them. That was fine until it was time for one of the girls to start laying again. Most of my breeding girls prefer to lay in nest boxes at night. When they ARE NOT in laying/breeding mode then they take turns on who gets to sleep in them.

I've been in my chook house late in the eve and have found that some of my girls DO sleep in nest boxes... usually they are late or early egg layers.
