What is she?

SD... Here's that pic I promised, a little late. haha

I taught Mama to jump up to get her treats from me. She'll do anything for a grape!

She thinks I'm her personal pez/treat dispenser. LOL She follows me everywhere and pecks at things hanging on my coat as if treats will appear. She's so funny. Trans gender or otherwise. haha

Thanks, ozarkchicks. Anxious to see how big he gets when he's full grown. He's only 6 1/2 months old.

Funny! Iowa looks just like South Dakota this time of year haha I like your coop. Are those windows on the side? My coop is pretty similar to yours and I am trying to figure out windows for it. Last year I just had the leave the coop & pop door open 24/7.

Yes, they look very similar, only it's more flat here. haha That's not our coop, that's actually the very large dog house connected to their outdoor kennel. It comfortably houses the Great Dane, GSD and Springer. The coop is similar, only roundish, w/ just one window, as the kids broke some but they only got boarded up w/ plywood and weren't replaced. We are going to do something tho this summer to get more natural light in there on the south side. Their door is on the south side and the main walk thru door is on the east side. It's 11' x 30' total, but we only use a third of it until new chicks come. It can house 75, but we're not gonna fill it up quite yet. We'll have 26 total w/ the new chicks.

I'll get a pic of it for ya when I go let them out and freshen up their water. Nice day here today. 50s. FINALLY!

Just got back in. What a nice day!! Didn't even need a coat. The wind can be horrid out here and it was nice not to fight it. Chickens agreed. :)

Took a couple pics of the coop for ya.

From the front. Mama's in the pic, too. She's never far from me.

The whole big thing. You can see where the windows used to be. Darn kids. haha
The log is their step up into the coop. If you click the pic to make it bigger, you'll notice the pullet in the foreground popped an egg out while I was taking pics. She was just as surprised as I was.

The windows that were in it were just like the window in front. They tip out for air circulation or you can just pop it out all together. We use sand on the floor and it keeps it nice and clean. No smells at all. My SO rigged up a giant kitty litter scooper using a plastic horse apple picker and wire mesh. Works great for getting the poops and sifting the sand back thru. Only takes 5-10 minutes a day to clean out.

You're welcome. Pics help describe things so much easier. We will put windows in it at some point before the heat of summer comes, but not sure how we're going to do it just yet. We want natural light and ventilation both. Good luck!

It is so hard to think of summer heat when we are getting ice storms in April haha I am thinking I may go with the old style tilt / remove because even the cheap windows that open are a little above my budget.

Oh wow. It was in the mid 70s here yesterday and just beautiful. We went fishing and had a bonfire afterwards. It was awesome. Then it thunderstormed last night and dipped down into the mid 40s later today. Spring and summer will be here eventually.

I know what you mean about budget. We have chicks coming next week and have to get everything ready for them AND get windows or something for the coop on a budget. The natural light is easier than the ventilation aspect of it. The old style tilt/remove window we have works pretty well. We have a shelf up above that holds the window open and they don't bother it, thankfully.
