What is the best breed for free ranging egg layers?

Rhode Island Reds and New Hampshire Reds are very excellent layers(lays 250 - 300 jumbo-sized, light brown eggs a year) and will happily be kept in free-range. Not only are they fantastic layers, but also has superior meat quality(often used in roasters). They are also very peaceful and are safe for kids, but New Hampshire Reds can be sometimes friendly or a bit aggressive(I have a couple of New Hampshire Reds and they are the friendliest feathered friends I have ever had).

Good luck!

I have Buff Orpington's that free range. My girls have been fabulous producers. My 5 hens have laid as many as 33 eggs in 7 days. Besides that, they are just nice birds. Very social able.
