what is the best cold hardy brown egg laying chicken

Gold Star or Comets are great layers even through the winter and very winter hardy.

it was 5 degrees this am here in Colorado....I have BR, Gold Comets, Australorp...all still laying....
no added light either...

ISA Browns,
They hold about 60% of the brown egg market.

The only place that I know of that has true ISA Browns is Town Line Hatchery.

Chanteclers were bred specifically for the cold weather of Canada...

Australorps is the best choice if it comes to

1. Laying
2. Wheather Hardyness
3. Ornamental

Unless you have a heated coop stay away from the ISA and other hybrid layers. Yes, they are industry standard, but the don't lay like industry birds when exposed to cold. They where designed to lay under specific conditions which does not include being cold hardy.
