New England.. the cold part.
instead of taking my chances gender-wise with the grab bag at TSC, I am just adding a pair of ducks to my Ideal order that arrives in 12 days. I currently have one mallard, one pekin, 2 Kc's and 3 swede mixes (black, blue and splash)... Ideal carries

Pekin
Mallard
Khaki Campbell,
Magpie,
BEI,
Black Runner,
F&W runner,
blue Swedish,
cayuga,
Buff,
Rouen,
snowy mallard

I like egg layers, and don't have any males... and don't really want any males... What should I get?

edited to add: Crests sort of freak me out...

I have khakis from Ideal. They so far have been egg laying machines. All survived to adulthood. One almost to laying age. I have 5 born the end of last May. They've all been laying since fall to late fall and I get 5 eggs most days. I like them alot but wish we'd been able to hold them more and feed them by hand when they were young. They don't like to be messed with and will stay a arms length away.

Hope this helps.

If you need Egg Layers, Campbells. If you want Quiet, Cayugas. If you want a Show Duck that it is quiet, a Cayuga . If you want a show duck that is loud and obnoxious get Mallards or Snowy Mallards (same thing as Welsh Harlequin). If you want a Duck that isnt great looking, but is pretty nice, get a Buff Duck. Black East Indies are loud but tiny (about the size as Mallards).
I dont like crested because when they hatch their brain can be really messed up.

GET CAYUGAS!

I recently ordered my Rouens from Ideal and didn't like that they might include Crests in my order. A rep from the hatchery told me to be sure to state in the comment box on the checkout page that I do not wish to have Crests in my order. Just wanted to let you know so when you order you can prevent any "freaky" Crests

On my invoice they stated that "no Crests were included per my request".

Let us know what you get

Hey! Black East Indies are not that loud!!
Sometimes if they want attention they'll quack in a little chorus, but not all that much!
Also they'll hear us laughing inside the house and they start up a bit, but its funny because it sound like they're laughing along with us! The saying lately in our house is "see even the ducks think it's funny!"
No, but seriously ours aren't that bad!
