What is the best egg candler for coturnix quail eggs?

I saw people using iphone flash light to candle quail eggs, it looks nice. But I don't have an iphone. I tried my Sumsung, didn't seem to work very well.
I don't think my iPhone worked very well either. Maybe it depends on which phone you have. Mine is a couple years old.

You want to get the highest lumen flashlight you can find/afford. I ended up with 500. That’s usually going to be a rechargeable. It’s best, imo, to choose one for which you’ll be able to purchase replacement(s) for the rechargeable battery. Also note whether the battery is included or a separate purchase. Added bonus if you CAN use a plain AA. You will not get top brightness from it using the less powerful battery, but it’s a nice option to have. I bought “ThorFire” TG06S from Amazon, fairly recently, if that helps. Note... if you leave it on for a long time it will get HOT.

I haven’t done a lot of candling, but this seems to work well with all but the darkest of my very first batch of shipped eggs. They aren’t quail. Since I haven’t built my quail cages and am not certain where I want to put them, I haven’t gotten quail eggs yet. This is just an experiment to see whether I can hatch anything at all.

From what I’ve read here, it’s really tricky to see into quail eggs. People do seem to develop the knack after a few hatches, but it’s not necessarily your light source’s fault if you aren’t able to tell whether your eggs are developing.

I have one of those lux pro flashlights i got from lowes it works AWESOME for all eggs except quail eggs, of course!
The eggs are just so small that my hand absorbs too much of the light, i am going to try to use a cardboard with a hole cut and the tips you guys put above . Ive also used the flashlight mode on my samsung galaxy, it has the same issue as the flashlight and isnt quite as bright anyway.
Here's the flashlight, its about 5 inches long and 1+ inch lens.
