what is the best feed to feed to just hatched quail.

I have used the 20% starter only when I was out of everything else and only for a day. I also ground it in the blender.
The game bird starter, at 30% is a lot better and the correct size.

Purina Startrena Gamebird Starter 30% Is All We Feed Gamebirds Throughout Their Entire Lives. Coturnix Quail Do Well On It Strait From The Bag, Or If You Like You Can Make A Wet Mash Out Of It Or Grind It Up In A Blender Or Similar Appliance.

Medicated Or Non Medicated Is Personal Preference. Definately Go With A Gamebird Starter, Not Chicken Starter

See, i was wondering if you could give them the food wetted down. I guess if you had 200 or more it would be bad as that's a lot of water in the brooder but less than that wet mash would be ok. However, like I said I'd be afraid of getting them too damp.

Gosh, I can't get any game bird starter here in Oz. Everywhere I look the best I can get is %25 protein turkey feed, so I am doing my own and getting approx %40 + protein.
I use 1/3 hand rearing mix with 2/3 high protein egg and biscuit mix. I use it for my canaries and they all love it.
I give it to all my birds everyday. Canaries and Buttons.
My canaries feed their babies and they grow faster than all my other canary friends can believe - so will use it with my button chicks when they hatch.
Just wish we had the stuff you guys have in the US, would make life easier.

P.S. They also get daily finch seed, chopped fresh greens, fruit slices and shell grit. Every third day they get either hard boiled egg or meal worms as an extra treat.

Sounds like your birds are better off without commercial starter.

I wish I could mix up our own rather then going with the premixes with all the filler.
