A day old chick doesn't need to eat yet. Actually they are o.k. for the first 2-3 days without food. After that you should give it chick starter, but if you can't get any feed it a mix of bread crumbs and egg yolk. But try and get some chick starter anyway. It's formulated for chicks and meets all their nutritional requirements.

get some corn and break it into very very tiny pieces almost like dust and you chick can eat that meanwhile you get some proper feed.
