What is the best hatchery for jungle fowl?

No not lie but don't offer if not asked. And I am not or was the other poster trying to go off topic or offend anyone. It is just a observation that I have noticed. I have owned and LOVED more than one mutt dog and there is no show class for mutts. But I would still take offense to a out of the blue remark, though not much. Most times I see it it is not asked for and shows are not mentioned. As far as the game fowl I don't know there is a class for showing. Kraienkoppes there is no class for but they sure are beautiful birds. But Please no offense was intended.

Getting back on topic I am thinking of getting some Saipan Jungle fowl. At up to 12# and 3 feet tall and the attitude would give any predator a second thought of an easy meal.

Well, in poultry, there is a class for "mutts" sort-to-speak it's called All Other Breeds or something like that. It's a "work-in-progress" area. For other varieties that aren't recognized and other breeds that are being worked on.

Apparently there is a gamefowl showing area, although I'm not familiar with it myself. There is another forum that has it for game fowl, but as for jungle fowl, I could have sworn that I saw at least one jungle fowl at the shawnee show.

I have seen what you're talking about with the "random" critiques, but when a person asks if their bird is show quality, I just believe that honesty is the best policy. Otherwise, they'll have to go through the REAL cruelty at the show. It's a shame when people laugh at the younger breeders. I remember it very well and try to keep away from doing that. But I do believe that younger breeders should at least listen to the experience of an older breeder. Then take that advice and use it as they will.

As for showing "mutt" dogs, isn't there an "activity" that they do? It involves hurdles, etc? And then the water sports? Or is that only for registered dogs as well? I'm just glad we don't have to register chickens...ugh...can you imagine the headache that would involve?

I think there is a big difference In Showing chickens and them being SQ and People duaghters being pretty . People can die there hair , put on make up get fake hair . These days you name it and it can be done to make a person look a certain way , But With chickens you cant . You need to know what you are buying because nothing can really be done . If a chicken's show standard calls for white legs and the chick has slate then its not show quality and will never be any good . In showing birds you need to know what you have . Its just the way it is

As far as your concerned I have seen you give some good advice on showing and I am sure it is appreciated. My remark was not intended for you. I will probably never show but it is a problem here as some breeders refuse to sell, because you might beat them with their own bloodline. Nobody believes me when I tell them I am NOT showing. And if I was what difference does it make what bloodline beats you your still beat... LOL

As close as I ever came to showing is when my family raised hunting dogs that placed in trials. Many many many many years ago.

IDK...if my own bloodlines beat me, I'd be kind of proud. I mean, it IS the line you created? Maybe I'm a bit screwed up from a breeder standpoint? LOL

Exactly! And the people that win the show are bound to tell the people who ask where they got the bird from, or whose lines it is from, bada-bing-bada-boom you've got free advertisements! LOL!

Feel free to berate me endlessly now. But the point of showing is to perpetuate the "best" lines and is always a teaching/learning process. When you stop learning, it's time to leave poultry alone.

Rod, the pictures were obviously of birds at a show so I see no problem with your comments on that thread. And I have only been here a short time and you do so in a polite helpful manner. Actually I just stuck my nose into the thread with a post... LOL

As for free rangers, I'd go with American Gamefowl, being you are in Louisiana I'd imagine you could probably find one or two breeders somewheres around you. Like has been stated before, the junglefowl you get from hatcheries aren't pure jungle fowl, but they would probably be ok for a free range flock. Its not like you are buying them to show. Truth be told, many of them probably have been crossed with American Gamefowl to maintain appearance and increase desirable traits for hatchery needs. You want the real thing though, I'd check here.
