I think the title says it all. I want to get into pheasants and i considered buying an assortment from McCackle Hatchery, but the package the got is staright run and no breeds are guaranteed. I would like to get an assorment of rare breeds and at least a pair of each.

private breeders are way cheaper and much better quality than hatchery birds. Look on here or try the GAMEBIRD GAZZETTE, or AMERICAN PHEASANT AND WATERFOWL SOCIETY magazines, they are full of classified ads for waterfowl and pheasants of all types, though getting them into Puerto Rico may cause problem with customs
Good luck

I'm getting my first order of live birds this june from Cackle Hatchery, if it all goes well. I might order their rate assortment. It looks expensive but Hatcheries may be the only ones with experience shipping down here.

Well I just found on the local classifieds a pair of lady armheart pheasants for $100, I don't know if this is a good deal.

I guess it depends on where you live. Since getting them shipped where you are is a problem, I'd say that is fair for a breeding pair. I can get Males almost ready to breed for $25-$30 but hens normally go more around here.

I agree, Full colored breeding pairs are always near $100 here stateside, but yearlings are in the $40-$50 range.
Again though, location and avalablity play a hugh part, seeing how you'd have $70 in express shipping to get a pair to you!

Ok so i lost the contact for the pair of lady amherst, the ad expired and i couldn't find it.

Today another ad came up and these are the prices:

"ringnec trios,130,ringnec yumbo 150,red golden pareja 175, yello golden pareja 150,laidy angel pareja 200, silver pareja 175,chukar perdises trio 90 periquitos ingleses pareja 100"

pareja means pair. prices seems a little high. I wanted to get 3 different pairs.

THOSE PRICES ARE CHEAP COMPARED TO WHAT ITS GOING TO COST YOU TO SHIP BIRDS IN, AND YOUR OBTAINING THEM LOCALLY SO THEY WONT BE SUBJECTED TO THE SHIPPING ITSELF AS WELL AS THEY MAY BE MORE ADJUSTED TO YOUR CLIMATE AND LOCAL--- MORE DISEASE OR PARASITE RESISTANT. I KNOW HERE IN FLORIDA WE HAVE MUCH MORE PROBLEMS THAN MANY OTHER AREAS OF THE COUNTRY BECAUSE WE NEVER REALLY HAVE ANY HARD FREEZES THAT LAST FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME, SO FLEAS AND TICKS AND WHAT NOT ARE MUCH WORSE HERE...

AND ANOTHER THING---- INSTANT GRATIFICATION--- YOU WONT HAVE TO WAIT TO GET YOUR NEW BIRDS IF YOU PROCURE THEM LOCALLY.
