This forum is so large and so useful sometimes it's easy to forget what we learned or where to find it again. I thought it would be fun to have a thread of favorites.

What is the best thing you got from BYC? Was is a coop/run building tip? A recipe? Preventative health measures? Predator prevention? Did you meet a fellow chicken enthusiast and now are best friends?

You don't even have to limit yourself to one. Write 2 or 3 if you want.

I'll start : My favorite feature right now is the breeds section. I love that there are all sorts of breeds and colors being worked on across the country, and I get to see them all from my armchair and dream one day I'll have enough space to work on my own special variety or help save an old favorite from extinction. My hat is off to you dedicated breeders out there.

The carton method for hathing eggs.

Also some advice on respiratory diseases and incubation in general.

The search function could be better, but it's good enough to find a lot of good info if you use it.

.....Alan.

Thanks for contributing Alan. I do find answers I need in the search section. This is strictly for fun.

I have another one: Poop boards! Need I say more?

Well.....99% of what I know about chickens has come from this forum!

It has mostly helped with the coop/run construction, and I have received some excellent advice the one time I had a "what's wrong with my chicken!" post. I still learn something new every day on here....and I am also learning that, as pdsavage so eloquently put it, we are all crazy!

I've had chickens for years and I still learn things from here. Never to old or experienced to learn something new.

1)Proper coop ventilation
2)The Deep Litter Method

1. How to hatch eggs! I tried, I failed, I cried, I came to BYC & searched & asked questions & learned, and I'm still learning, and very very very grateful to ALL of you who answered my questions & provided knowledge and sympathy & congratulations & -- this is just the BEST place!

2. the amazing variety of colors & breeds--I had NO idea! now I have Blue Plymouth Rocks & Ameracaunas & Welsummers -- I never even knew, 2 years ago, that these even existed.

3. chicken health - esp how to splint the chicks w/splayed feet w/the bandaids. It works!

Will say it again: AWESOME SITE & PEOPLE!!!
