Well, I will be going to a bird auction next week and hopefully purchase some feathered friends! Anyways, I can't decide want kind of bird/s I should get. My family has had chickens, guinea hens, peacocks and ducks, but I have never solely owned birds myself. I know how to take care of them and everything but i'm trying to figure out which is best for me. I'm trying to focus on either chickens, ducks or whatever other bird that would make a great pet. I have heard a lot of info and a lot of people with opposite opinions on this matter and i'm just trying to clear it up. Some people say ducks are the best and others disagree with reasons like they bond with each other, and not YOU! And others say chickens are the best, while others disagree because of multiple reasons. And for other types, there is argument after argument. So if someone could give me legitimate reasons to what they think the best pet is, that would be really helpful! This is basically what I seek in my future feathered friends:

1) The bird/s will be sleeping inside our house at night and will be outside during the day. It doesn't matter to me whether or not they're messy or make a lot of noise.
2) I wish to be able to pick them/it up while not causing any distress to the bird.
3) I would like it if it/they would follow me around inside and outside.
4) It/they must love cuddling!
4) I basically just want something I can bond with and that won't run away or get scared every other second. Something that will stick by me and I love and seek my attention.

I realize ducks and such bond with each other and pretty much forget about the owner, but some people have that bond with them and i'm wondering if it would be possible for me to accomplish this, if I go the duck route? Does anyone have any ideas on what the best pet bird would be? Chicken? Duck? Goose? ETC? Thanks!

I'm not at all looking for birds that you would typically find in a pet store like a parrot or a finch or something like that. Just the good old farm type birds!

Sorry no idea, beside chickens and waterfowl I've never liked indoor pet birds. Good luck though, I bet the auction will be fun.

Since you are going to have the bird sleep in the house at night I would go with Cochin Bantams. Most of them are lovers, and they are docile. If you have only one, it should bond with you. It also depends on the individual chicken, most Cochin Bantams are very sweet and lovey. They don't make as much mess as duck and geese. I also had a hen turkey (Bourbon Red) that was awesome. Nothing like a 20 lb bird hopping on your lap :) I also have several other chickens that are bonded to me. I had them from peeps, that's the best way to go, and give them lots of treats!

My goslings, especially Toulouse or dewlap Toulouse, are like puppy dogs with feathers. They come running when I call them. They follow me around like my shadow and love to be picked up and held in my lap.
