What is the best way to get rid of a hawk...

I took some old cds and hung them around the runs. The reflections seem to discourage them from coming around. At least it seems to help on a sunny day.

I like the CD idea. Hawks got called to my attention this afternoon due to a close call.
What I was thinking of doing so that my birds can still explore is build a decent sized tractor run. Some sort of moveable pen with a solid roof overhead. This way the birds can explore but be safe.

i also need help with this....one got my polish hen about a month ago..and like last week..it almost had my silkie mix...we heard a ruckus in my yard...and ran out and the Hawk or brown Eagle was taking off..my other birds were hiding..and there were feathers scattered in an area by my goat pen.....i was missing 2...they both finally came back..but one was missing alot feathers on her chest and had some small wounds there(almost like a talon hole)...thankfully she made it..i still dont know how she survived!...this Hawk/Eagle is huge!...and also..i was wonderin...the Hawk/eagle attacked right beside my goats...i know they were outside baa--baaing at it..and i have a pretty big french alpine goat..is it normal for them to attack with other big animals right there?..arent they afraid of anything!?....

...and..come to think of it..i think my 2 Saint Bernards were on my back porch also...in full view of the hawk...what in gods name scares these things off!....i feel so bad..i cant let my girls out of their pen anymore to roam my yard...they are miserable...

i do know that they dont like reflections..because whenever i try to get pics of them(they fly all around my house..
hide.gif
..)..they stay away from my house....they see me..and veer off...its ONLY when i have a camera pointed at them...(its a silver camera)...that ,or they are camera shy....

...OR they dont want to be caught on film!..thats it!...they are crafty suckers!...

I feel your frustration. I am in the same boat you are right now with hawks and having to keep my girls in. Today, one flew right into my shed to attack the hens who ducked in there for cover. Close call, and fortunately just a few feathers lost.

I don't know the best way, but will keep reading the posts for some answers. Obviously a secure covered run and predator proof coop is the ultimate answer with no free ranging. Safe but not necessarily happy hens.
