What is the best way to prevent mites and lice

I am new to chickens and would like to prevent any pest infestations...any hints?

I sprinkle sevin dust around the perimeter of the coop. Haven't had a problem.

I use diatamatious (sp) earth FOOD GRADE ONLY. I sprinkle in bedding and in dust bathing areas and I have only had mites once in about 5 years. When they did get them that is when I dusted them and their bedding with seven dust.
