What is the bump on the front of a chickens chest? (the gulet?)

I thought my chicken had a tumor, but both of them have it. Is that there gulet?

i believe its called a crop... my chicks get the same bump after they have eaten.
does it stay the same size always or does it change after they eat?

The crop will change in size. Its bigger after they eat, and will deflate a bit as it digests.
As for what it technically does...im not real sure <grin>

When I first noticied with on my first peepers, I thought I had deformed chickens LOL They were lopsided

I soon learned that it was a sign of a very full baby.
