What is the cheapest wood to use for chicken coops?

I use the wood from old torn down fences.

I don't know what the prices are there or if asphalt shingles are common but if you plan on keeping the coop for a while, I would use asphalt shingles. The plastic is light and relatively easy to apply but at the price both products are here shingles will cover 4 times the space for the same amount of money and last much much longer. The plastic can crack and you're done, uv will weaken it over time and we get tremendous wind storms - shingles usually stay, plastic usually leaves.

I just spent $233 for ALL the materials i needed to build a 4'by8' coop. Its 8 feet high. I had some materials to start with, but not much. The window I had, and shingles. Thats about it.
