I bought a water heater thermostat, and it just had two screws on the one side. I went ot but another one, but the only one they had, had two screws on one side and one screw on the other for a total of three screws. does anybody know what the differnece between them are and if they will both still work the same?

A water eater generally has two thermostats, a top and a bottom. These work interchangably to control the heating elements. The two screw t-stat sounds like bottom thermostat, which to my understanding and experience is the one you want to use.
