what is the difference in a name. Farm VS Ranch.

I've lived on 1,000 acre farms and now live on a 40 acre ranch. A ranch is for grazing and a farm is for cultivating. Most answers delivered here are from what we've always heard it called but the reality is that certain parts of this world and our nation simply will not support cultivation. Some have large and or small farm/ranch combinations but with very selective crops and rotational grazing. Some ranches like ours is a section of many different acreages and each sub divide is classified as to accordance of the crops or livestock. I knew a guy that had a worm ranch and here you go back yard chicken folks, a chicken ranch! We can continue to call our places whatever we want to but there still is correct classifications. Enjoy where you are and what you're doing. Without that, it doesn't matter what you call your thriving enterprise..
