Between Barred rocks, Marans and the other chickens whitch might look like BR but they are not?

I am just wondering, because I have 5 suppose to be BR, but some of them are darker, and others are loghter colors and all of them are pullets.

Omran, SpeckledHen is the expert on knowing the difference between Barred Rocks and Dominiques and Marans. I hope she sees this thread.

Barred Rocks have single comb and yellow legs
Marans have white legs (I think)
Dominiques have Rose Combs.

Im 99% sure all of that is true, but someone can correct me if I am wrong!!

so then clairese is a marans. she doesnt have yellow legs she has white/pail legs and is darker in color than a barred rock but dont marans lay darker colored eggs? clairese lays a light cream colored. im so confused

are you sure they are all pullets? Typically in barred or Cuckoo colored chickens, the lighter ones are roos and the darker ones pullets. Not always true but usually!

It could be a Barred Rock with bad leg color? Or a Barnyard Classic (cross of some unidentified kind)?

Isn't the thing about chicken "breeds" is that a chicken with no out crossing to other breeds for several generations (and therefore a "purebred") could appear farther from the standard description for that breed than one with a few crosses to other breeds that was done to correct a flaw?

A lot of hatchery Barred Rocks have pale legs. Mine only has a hint of yellow to her.

Dominiques don't have the same body as a Barred Rock or Marans. Hard to explain, but if you saw a picture of one compared to a Barred Rock or Marans, then you'd see the difference.
