What is the Earliest to Expect an Egg? (Husband needs motivation)

Some of my girls started at 16 weeks, but by 20 weeks the majority were laying. I think anywhere from 16-22 weeks is average.

I have some at 21 weeks that haven't started laying yet...

My experience has been large breed birds like barred rocks take longer than smaller breeds. My Barred Rocks, Orphingtons, and RIR started laying around 21-24 weeks. My smaller wyandottes and sex links started around18-20 weeks.

The first of my EE's started laying last week. I thought it was about 16 weeks as we got them as 2-3 day olds on March 15th, but after counting the actual weeks rather than calculating 4 weeks to a month, It turns out shes 20 weeks old! The other EE is probably about another week away, although she's been squatting for pets for about a week already.

my buffs started at about 19 weeks I think, but it also could be that my barred rocks are laying and the buffs get the credit.

Just tell him that they need their own nest boxes so they are more motivated to lay...lol.... Good Luck!!!! It's like pulling teeth to get the guys to do anything around here!

You can call him in to the computer and show him what my husband did for me.

My girls started laying a week after he added their nest boxes. I just love it, you open those 2 back doors and there are 4 nest boxes with eggs each day now. My girls started laying at 16 1/2 weeks.

I have red sex links and we got our first eggs (three on the same day!) when they were 19 weeks 5 days old.
