What is the fate of your ducks?

A mix.

I got 11 from Metzer and at most keeping 7.  The 4 that I do cul will be the welsh males and the screetchy one who I immagine is a female.

One is to be a guard duck/tick eater  (male) the rest are going to be my layers and tick eaters.

Well I have 8 muscovies, 2 boys and 6 girls. They're all cute in their ways. I'm yet to decide who might take the lead for the dinner table. Perhaps I'll wait for them to lay and raise their ducklings before I decide.

i have 10 ducks 7 hens and 3 males one of the males has to go. he is very rough when breeding. what do i do with him what if i can't fine a home for him. He is a blue Swedish 7 months old. Most of mine are pets plus egg layers. around here people throw them on a pond and they are on there own. i guess if i fine someone to do the deed i could do the rest.

Any animal that settles on our farm does so with a retirement plan in place. If something should happen to us while they are still alive we have made arrangements with a local rescue group to take them in for the remainder of their lives.

That's very good of you.

My fiancé and I are hand raising ducks this year in hope that they raise their own ducklings next year, and then we would use those for meat. I know I can't eat the ones I raised, and we'll see about future babies. They might be too cute!

That's very true with the first generation that are directly raised. Perhaps as they begin to raise their ducklings, it will be easier to randomly pick among them and use for the table.

Blue Swedish are cute, perhaps you might reconsider him after the breeding season is over. If not then he just have to go away to a new home or to the dinner table...none pleasant though.

Ah ha, since he's got a name I think he'll eventually be saved. But that's when he gets his act together.

Mine are for eggs, but they're probably going to be pets as well. I'm wearing down hubby's resistance to naming them. When we were going to get some for meat, we weren't going to name them, but I told him it's only polite to give them names since they'll be providing eggs for us.

Naming for eggs isn't bad idea, at least you'll easily know who's the lead layer...however to name and eat that's the difficult part.
