What is the largest breed of chicken?

THREE FEET!!!! are you chitt'en me.. WOW.. ya.. I don't want to pay 1500 for a bird that can die in an Iowa winter, but we can sure try some eggs if they are reasonable and build a decent shelter first. It would take a summer to get ready for them and its fall how.. but.. Ya.. thats sounds like a REAL bird..

You could try some really nice SQ langshans. A local exhibitor who takes shows with them and is always on champ row is starting to sell chicks in the spring. His name is Tony Albritton and not only does he have great birds, he's a very nice guy to deal with.

here is a BBS JG auction going on right know.

I have been doing some research on the larger Asian game fowl since I started this thread and have been googling all these birds I have never heard of befor. I like them, however they seem to need a climite I will not be able to support here in the bitter cold of Iowa. If there is a way to do it, I would like to. It seems some more research is in order.

I will say, watch where you get your information from regarding the Oriental gamefowl. I will say a lot of the information is from people who know very little about the breed, or are just making assumptions. You can ask around on the Show us your games! thread and a lot of people there raise the Oriental fowl.

Not sure about your statistics, but having had had both American and English Orpingtons, there is no comparison in size between the two. My American Orpingtons were not even close to the size that my English Orpingtons are. My English youngsters of 5 months old are much bigger than my American orps were at full-grown. My English rooster weighed more than 10 lbs at 6 months old; he is 17 months old now and I need to weigh him. My adult English hen probably weighs more than 10 pounds. It's really all about personal preference. For me, the English Orpingtons puts the American Orpingtons to shame.

Rare Feathers - your rooster is one handsome dude !!
