I have a 7 year old EE hen, living with my other 1 year old chickens. Her friend, a RIR, died from unknown causes 2 years ago at age 5. She still seems to be doing well, and lays a big green egg every other day. [IMG] I was just curious how much longer she will live. She acts just like the 1 year olds still, so I was just wondering. They can live up to 12 years all chickens but usually around 7 year.

I was just wondering this question today myself!

How long do chickens usually lay for? How long do they live after they stop laying?[IMG]

Quote:lay consistently, or lay period? there is quite a difference.

as to how long they live after they stop laying.... well i guess that depends how long you let them! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Quote:They should never stop laying permanently, but darkness, parasites, cold, and heat can all limit egg laying.
Also chickens can live about as long as dogs or cats.
