What is the longest living breed of chicken?

My cousin the 4H chicken whisperer showed an 11 year old OEGB hen this year who still lays an egg or two a week.

I had a red sex link named Posey who just passed away at around 3 years. I had another that only lived 3 years also. I am like you and get very attached to my pet birds and have been wondering the same thing as you. I want a longer lived chicken. I do have a cochin that was a show chicken and she is 2 1/2. She is sweet and docile but doesn't have the fun personality of the sexlink chickens. Posey would jump up and down when I brought treats and jump up on the bench to sit by me or check out my earrings.I have been reading up on the subject and I read that chickens that lay everyday are more prone to die young of repoductive issues. My cochin hardly ever lays and is often broody. I quess she might live a long time.

well i have a black naked neck hen that she is 10 years old,my white leghorn and my silver spangled hamburg are 8 1/2 years old, and my splash naked neck hen is 7 years old but my blue andulusian hen ,red naked naked and my barred rock were 7 years old when they died

I would say mutts live the longest! I have an at least 8 year old mutt that lived a horrific ordeal recently and today she's hatching 16 eggs (10 hatched, 5 pipped, only one seems dead in shell)... And that's not all.... Most of our birds(who are mutts) live to their teen years with no signs of old age, and lay eggs often... I don't have a record, but I'm pretty sure a lot of our area's birds lived to their late teens maybe more!
Because mutts have the most diverse genetic pool of any chicken especially after many generations of breeding with more and more diverse birds... They seem the healthiest, strongest and most robust birds and the best dual purpose chickens... And the most beautifully diverse!

that is one beautiful hen!!! I couldn't remember my account info. and created a new one just to compliment you on your gorgeous girl even though this is an old thread... I just lost my best buff orpington layer and she was only 2.5 years old... I was looking online to see how long-lived they should be typically... otherwise, my hens are doing great and all came from Dare to Dream Farms, which delivers to southwest coastal CA, where I am
