I'm a newbie to raising chickens and I'm researching on how big I need/want my new coop to be. I do know I want to raise Jersey Giants, which I read, can weigh on average 10-13lbs each. I was thinking of having 5-8 birds including a rooster. My question is what is the minimum space required for each Jersey Giant within the coop? I do plan to allow them access to a pen surrounding the coop and depending on different circumstances allow them to free range at times.

I think the general rule is 4sqf in the coop and 10sqf of run space per bird BUT if they will need to spend long periods of time in the coop due to snow and bad weather then they will need more than this, basically the more space they have the less problems you will have with petty squabbles and fighting and as they are such a large breed I would give them abit more still.
