DH had about the same reaction when I explained what our first cockatiel's "birdie dance" on daddy's hand actually was...

bwahahaha "birdie dance"?! LMAO this makes me want a cocketiel again! We had one he was awesome! He totally whistled the theme song to the Andy Griffith Show everyday! haha.

I got another one for you guys, "So...... what do you like.... DO with a duck?" I was like..... uhhhh...... what do you mean DO with it? What do you DO with your dog? I also got laughed at by my neighbor who called me crazy when I said I was getting a duck diaper.... I think that when I get old I may end up being the crazy duck lady hahahahaha.

One spring I had ordered chicks and ducklings about the same time. I had them all together when they first came. My neighbor (from NY, no offense NYers) asked me "which ones are the ducks?"
I said "are you serious?" She was.

I got this from my own sister, My sister "I don't want to eat a duck egg omelet!" Me "Why not?" My sis "B/c the duck eggs have green shells!" me "So?" sis "SO, no one likes to eat a green omelet!". I have this one also, My sister "I don't like to eat your chicken eggs." Me "Why?" Sis "B/c I have met your hens!" me "LOL"

When the weather started getting cold my DD was talking about our ducks to a co worker. Later that day when I came into work she told me I was awful that I wouldnt let my ducks migrate for the winter. I told her my ducks cant migrate cause they cant fly that well, she said that was mean because they would freeze to death cause they couldnt migrate south. I just said ok and left.

I think the migratory one takes the cake by far! Golly, how can we all be sooo mean by not allowing our pretty much FLIGHTLESS ducks to ride a bus down to Mexico where they can hang out on the beach and roast in the sun...... sheesh

Ok, I will admit I felt a little weird eating my first parrot egg. In my defense that was before I started keeping chickens.

I live in a farming community, and teach young children at a private school. Even though some if them LIVE on farms (they may understand keeping bulls separate from cows/calves) I'm amazed at what I do have to teach them. One little girl wanted to argue with me about roosters laying eggs. None of them can tell ducks from geese. I'm also surprised at the resistance I meet. As a whole, they don't WANT to know that meat comes from animals. Or that roosters CAN be dangerous to young children (along with bulls, buck goats, and pigs, etc.). I find myself walking a fine line between educating them about farm facts and not upsetting them. They know I have chickens, geese, guineas, goats, rabbits, llama, etc. and are always wanting me to talk about them and show them pictures.

But no, they actually didn't know milk came from cows either (or in my case goats, which REALLY messed them up, LOL!).

Some really funny stuff on here!!
Not duck realated, but here it is:

I had a business man at my house for work and I went and showed him my chickens. I had just cleaned the coop so the bedding was pretty clean. He asked some typical questions then asked, "Do they only do their duty outside?" I politely had to tell him that I had just cleaned the coop and that they just poop wherever. Afterwards I still couldn't believe he asked that. HUMANS need to be toilet trained, do you think that chickens just do it naturally?

A told a friend that I was getting 4-6 eggs a day from my 8 hens. A couple weeks later i told her production was down and I was only getting 3 eggs a day. She was flabbergasted that i had such a huge drop of about 40 eggs. I had to tell her that I was previously receiving 4 to 6 eggs a day, not 46 eggs a day. And she totally knew that I only had 8 hens!!! I am amazed how many people think chickens are machine that pump out eggs every five minutes.

Oh, and when I showed someone my meat chickens she gasped "Oh my gosh, are they all pregnant?"
