I can get Purina Flock Raiser 20% for $15.47 a bag plus no tax as they take my resale cert. but I have to buy 40 bags to get that price. Kudos if you can grind and mix your own but I prefer the bagged mixes because of the protein content since my flocks have to take turns getting out to free range. I don't think they would get enough protein if I mixed my own unless I added some fish or soybean meal. I suppose I could raise my own mealworms but it's just one more thing to have to do! It would have to be a LOT of mealworms.

Jake, what does your straight grain mix come out to protein wise?

I was paying $21 per 100# of feed from the feed mill, until the last bag. It had hard slightly moldy clumps in it. No more from mill. Now we use either Dumor or Layena crumbles.Dumor is around 14.75 for 50# and Layena is about 1$ more.

After paying $18 for a 50# bag of Flockraiser, I decided it was worth the drive to Lake Butler to Hilland Dale Feed to get their unmedicated chick starter at $19.00 a hundred, and their laying mash at $18 a hundred. At least at this time of year I can buy 2 months worth and not have it go bad.

After having paid almost $18 a bag for my last two bags of 18% grower/finisher, I found a feed store here in Houston that has it for only $14.25. Head on over to Parkway Feed on C.E. King parkway for the best prices! Even their hay is 3 dollars a bale cheaper than anyone else. They are almost 20 miles away and I save money by driving all that way rather than getting it closer to my house. PLUS - they are a 'real' feed store staffed by people that know something about chickens. And they're nice. No more TSC and so on for me!

Poulin Layer Pellets $14.05 for a 50lb bag

It did go up from $13.95 a few weeks ago.

All I want to know is who is the person paying $9 per bag?? I want some!!

Had to take my mother to the doctor in Pine Bluff, Arkansas today. About 45 minutes away. Stopped on the way home in Star City, AR and bought a bag of 16% Layer by Prime Quality. Cost was $12.00 50#. Added a 50# of 8% cattle mix for $8.00. Mixed it togethera s I poured the feed in the feed can. If it wasn't a 20 minute drive to Star City we would buy all our feed there.

Yesterday I found Tucker Mills Super Layer Mini Pellet (21%, I think) for $11 at a locally owned feed store (16% was $10), then went to Sikes and found Layena Omega Plus pellets for $18.

I'm in east Alabama.

ETA: both were 50# bags

Purina flock raiser has gone up to over $17.00 a bag, I just bought a bag of Dumore grower instead for $15.49. I have been calling every feed store within about 60 miles the best price I can find is Layer for $13.59 for 50# but it is only 14% protein. I'm going to try calling some of the larger towns further away and see if I can find a better price on something with higher protein.
