What is the proper/best diet for chickens?

Check the packaging, but I believe if you have mixed aged flocks, after the grower portion you can have them on "flock raiser"...no calcium added. Then you can just have a container of oyster shell secured to the wall of the coop at adult chicken height for your layers.

If I can find the flock raiser I'll get it. That seems like the best way to go.

What about all the little things that you can give your chickens like yogurt and cat food. what are these used for?
