What is the purpose of brewer's yeast in duckling food?

Hi! I've been wondering what the purpose of brewer's yeast is... I know that ducklings need it, and I have bought some for them, but I still have no idea what purpose it serves. Thanks!

Ducks require higher niacin than chickens, brewers yeast is a good supplement for that so you put that in to make up for the lower levels of niacin in chick feed so that you ducklings don't end up having problems like limping or being unable to stand.
