Yep, a wether is a boy without his testicles.

If you only want pets, there are several reasons why a pair of wethers is perferable to does or bucks. One is cost. Many breeders have excess boys. So they sell for a lower price.

But why wouldn't a person want unaltered boys instead? The reason is the SMELL. When a buck reaches sexual maturity and it is rut time, bucks reek. They produce a very rank smell from their scent glands. And to make themselves even more pungent, they pee all over themselves. They manage to spray urine all over their bellies, legs, and turn to get their faces and beards drenched, too. This is all to make themselves irressitable to a doe. But for an owner who wants to love on their goats? Yuck. And the smell sticks to clothing and skin, it is hard to wash off. My buck can peel paint when he is in rut.

Does make wonderful pets too, with no smell. But they are often expensive because they are used for breeding or milking. So a nice dairy wether may cost you $50-75, but a dairy doe would set you back $200-250 or more. Also, bucks who are sold unaltered tend to cost a lot more than a wether. Especially if the buck is registered. Most breeders aren't going to sell a buck with THEIR herdname unless they are worthy of breeding. If a poor quality buck with their name is used for breeding, then it reflects badly on their farm. So they just wether those lads before they are sold to be used as pets or meat animals.

then what is the minimum amount of space i would need for them if they have play equipment in the enclousr

You definitely need to consider if you want dairy or meat goats. Nigerian Dwarves are dairy goats, and will most likely require some milking. If you do not intend to milk, look into meat goats. Pygmys are a great option. but I have Myotonic (fainting) goats. I love them to death and they are very entertaining. And they stay relatively small. Below is a picture of my buck -- he can walk under my chicken coop with no problem; and even get in the tiny door.

if i chose the nigis how much space would they need? and how tall are your fainting goats?

I know I'm sounding like a parrot. But there isn't really a set minimum. How much can you spare? Give them the most space you can possibly give. I mean, the numbers I've seen say the minimum outdoor area is 130 square feet per goat. Theoretically, a 16ft x 16ft area would be the minimum. And that is tiny. Hardly enough room for a good leg stretch. My girls are in a 75ft by 75 foot area, and they use every inch.

Also, the three of them reduced the high grass and brush to nothing in just a week. So the smaller space they're in, the more hay they need fed.

thanx that helps a lot, 1 step closer to getting a goat!!
