What is the strangest thing you have seen your ducks eat or try to eat?

I am FREAKING out right now! I looked out the window and my ducks were chasing one of the saxony ducks because she had something hanging out of her mouth. Well, I ran outside and it was a baby BUNNY! She was trying to swallow it whole. By the time I got to her, she had the bunny almost swallowed. The head and front paws were all I could see. :(
I got it from her, but it was dead and all it's legs were broken. There is a nest in their pen. I do not know what I should do. I attempted to block it from the ducks, but I don't know if it will keep them from the nest.

The bunnies are a little over a week. There eyes are not open, but they have fur and are good sized. They were warm and seem full, so I am thinking mom came last night. We just moved the ducks back in their pen yesterday. The drakes were there, but the ducks were not.

Has anyone seen their ducks eat anything just as strange or stranger?

I saw mine fight over a frog once. It was pretty hilarious. But a bunny! I don't think that was meant to happen.

Rabbit moms do not stay with the babies. She only comes back to feed them. If you can relocate the den then you won't have to worry about them. I could be another couple of weeks before they will be ready to leave the den. What state are you in? See if there are any wildlife rehabbilitators in your area and give them a call. They may have some better advise for you. Good luck.

We are in Michigan. There are wildlife rehabs, but I know they get swamped with baby bunnies and if mom is coming back to nurse I would hate to take them there. I just have to keep the ducks away during the day. I put some pieces of a rubbermaid shed leaning over each side of the nest, so the ducks cannot easily get to the nest. I left it open, so mom can get in. I will check on them through the day and tomorrow to see if mom came back.

Did they eat the frog? I knew chickens ate frogs, but I did not know ducks would. ;)

They did a good job of sharing the frog amongst them by pulling it apart. There was nothing left.

I thought that if you call the rehabbers they may have some advise on relocating the den. I know it's risky but it might work. It's always best to keep the babies with the mother when possible.

We will go through it really well tonight. It's going to take awhile!!!

She's out there be-bopping around like nothing happened. Scares us to death every time though!
