What is the wierdest thing your birds ate/passed?

Broken glass. Like two years ago, Lilith is still kickin'.

A black snake.
My silver duckwing cockerel ate a 7-8 inch long black snake (alive). My cockerel was about 5 months old. He was chased for a while by everyone else and after he dropped and pick up the snake several times, he swallow the hole snake. I was afraid he will choke and I will have to go inside the run and pull the snake out of his mouth but he had no problem eating the whole thing.

well my hen Red that ate the screw, three days later is NOT well. This morning I found her in the egg box, I thought she was laying an egg. When I got home, she was still there and did not look good. I took her out and she was obvioulsy not normal. I put her on the floor with me, and she wobbled to the waterer and drank heavily. I am sure she had not drank all day or eaten. Its 10 PM and she wants to stay in the egg box. She has diarreah, drinks well (a LOT! I am sure she is dehydrated from all day though) but will not eat anything. I poked, prodded, squeezed, etc. and could not find anything or anyspot that bothered her. She has no fever, no injuries. I am afraid she ate something this time that wont pass. She has not given me an egg in two days either. I checked for internal eggs, etc. I am bummed, but not surprised. I just hope she makes the night.

My little Red hen.
I have just had way to many deaths the last 8 months.

na, not broody. there is something definitely WRONG with her. I sat wtih her most of yesterday on my lap. She wont eat at all. She is drinking really well. Wont walk around. Wants to sit in her nest with her head in the corner. This morning i sat for 20 with her and took her out of the egg box. she wobbled and drank. has clear watery diahr. with a little white in it. So it seems like she is at least not stopped up right?

i pushed around on her crop, and it's fine it seems. No eggs in this will be the third day from her. Still does not seem to have any internal or anything.

Not sure what to do with her except to keep her warm, fluids coming, and try to coax some food in. She wouldnt even eat her favorite. Cherry Jello.

Cross your fingers.

well, when i got home yesterday she was a little better i think. She was outside at least kinda just standing around, hunched up a little. Her color looked better. i took her back inside and sat with her. she is drinking great. lot of water, but no food. I scrambled her up some eggs, opened a can of tuna, and ground up a little bit of cheese to entice her. No such luck. she wouldnt touch it.

I sat her next to her waterer and at bed time i gave her a nice fluffy pillow to sleep on.

This AM she was off the pillow and on the perch with the other 9. I did get her to eat a bite or two of scrambled egg. When I put her down off the perch, she drank and slowly went outside to get some fresh air. I had to go to work, but hubby will keep an eye on her I hope.

Maybe the worst has passed?????

Sure hope she gets better. It sounds positive.

When they eat screws, tacks, nails, and such they can punch a hole in the gizzard when they try to grind it up. I think most of the rest of the way through their system, the digestive juices coat that stuff enough to lubricate and maybe help stop it from cutting them. There is still danger that they might get cut, but those digestive juices are remarkable about what they can do. With everything chickens eat, something has to be protecting them.

I guess the strangest thing I've seen was in a chicken's gizzard when I processed it. There was a whole plum pit. I imagine if that young rooster had lived, he would have ground it down and processed it and I would have never known he ate it.
