what is the winter weather in Kentucky?

Our DDandDSIL live in oakgrove Kentucky, they are stationed at Fort Campbell. Yesterday we got the new Cabela's kids catalog. We want to get our grandchildren things for winter. We don't know what the winters there are like so don't know how warm of things that they will need. DD's ex got rid of all the childrens toys, clothes and furniture while she was in training! When she got them back they had hardly anything, they have had to start over from scratch.
The children will be coming to live with us next march as their parents are both being deployed. We live in Central CA but in the mountains at 5600ft. We don't want to buy two different sets of clothing for each of them, so if I can compare the winters we will know what to get.

I lived in LaGrange,Ky from the time I was 15 until this year, so I've been through a couple of winters. The saying goes "If you don't like the weather, wait 24 hours and it will change." It snows, it rains, it does it all... Depending on the year, winters are fairly cold (it'll get down in the single digits some), so whatever you get them will be fine. During the worst part of the winter, they'll definitely need the extra layers. If you have any more specific questions, I can try to help more!
