I have seen something like this around and in the coop. no harm to chickens so far. I left my dogs who usually catch mice and rats but this thing escaped. what is it? it is bigger than mouse and smaller than rat. and what can I do to get rid of it?

Some kind of dormouse?

looks like that. does it harm chickens? it has been around for a while, tried to make a nest near the coop, probably ate broody's food. I am not familiar with this animal and don't know if I should be concerned. however, I didn't see it last evening. maybe my dogs scared it away. I leave them in the chickens run at night.

I cant imagine it could do much harm to a decent sized chicken. . . . I would not be concerned unless you have babies and even then I personally wouldn't be.... I think the chickens pose a larger threat to the mouse honestly... And it is so CUTE!

Looks like a common field mouse. We have bunches of them and if they foolishly venture near the chickens they become a meal. Yes, chickens will catch and eat them. First time I saw them playing take away with a field mouse I just about flipped.
Same here! The first time I found a deer mouse trapped in a barrel I set it down, and a hen picked it up and banged it off the ground! I screeched and she dropped it. They know not to eat them in front of the crazy lady. I cannot help but spaz out even if I mean to let them have it.

I keep my broody and her baby in the house at night.

it is much bigger than mouse. looks like either baby rat or dormouse. last evening my cockerel was sitting on the roost and this thing was walking on the next roost and a muscovie was laying on the floor. they didn't care. it seems they have been friends for a long time but I didn't know it.

Since you are in Greece.....you may have different types of rodents than most the people on this forum are familiar with.
It probably won't hurt your chickens, but it is probably eating any feed that it can get at.

I would think that a mouse or rat trap would be the first thing to try......
......you can put it in a box big enough for it to function with a small hole for the rodent to enter but keep your birds from getting into it.
