We purchased a one day old sexed girl chick buff ORPINGTON. But now at 3 weeks, she's clearly not an Orpington. Anybody know what she is?

Big comb w/ red, not very feathered out.

Thanks. I'm excited when for the day when I know enough about chickens to help the new people. :) Also, I use to live in Fairbanks, so I like you already! :)

It looks like a New Hampshire Red to me... I had a hen that looked just like this when she was young.
It could be a boy, could be a girl. Sometimes I have hens that don't feather out well.
I just had a sex link pullet that I thought might be a boy, because she feathered so much slower than her sisters. Turns out she was just a late bloomer. Now she is beautiful.
I think the best indicator is the tail.
Males usually are slow to feather in the tail.

I went to the people that sold me the chick to find out what other breeds they had at that time, and rhode islands were one, but no hampshires. I sure hope she's not a rooster because my little bantam would get the crap beat out of him, or worse.

don't you think it's odd that the head is yellow and the body is red?
