Older by 10 minutes, Big Sister Gertie takes her chick-sitting duty very seriously.

"Mama said to watch my litter sister while she looks for Mr. Hawk," Gertie reported. "And this is the best way to keep her still."

Royce: Fannie is not as heavy as she looks. Like she says, she's more fluffy than fat. But I do get kind of get warm with her sitting on me in the summertime.

Fannie (drifting into her mid morning nap): Royce will find some worms for lunch and some clover for a snack... and for dinner he will dig me up some grubs... mmm....zzzz....
