Hi
I am new to chickens
.I was told these were Americuanas. but what is the coloring called? EACH is a different pattern Pretty.Like their looks.

But I havent seen any Americaunas this coloration in photos yet, so now i am not sure if they are.
Also they seems to be pretty scared when i hold them or even pet them.More than the other chickens I really have tried to pet them all a lot to get them to be tame.
My Light Brahmas and Barred Rocks are calm and will sit to be petted now at 4 weeks but not these.
Is this flightiness just their personalities?
Any help thanks ..

I'm betting they're Easter Eggers. They come in beautiful color variations, and it's fun to watch how their color changes as they grow and feather out.

I've had several EEs, and I did have a pair of black Ameraucanas. I liked the EEs better....Shhhh, don't tell anyone!

That partridge coloring is one of the more common colorations for EEs, from what I've observed.

I have three EE hens of that color, and a few EE hens in different colors, such as nearly all white, kind of golden like Buff Orpingtons, some mixed with Australorp or black Jersey Giant but still with the cheek muffs and pea combs.

But I've seen spews of photos of EE hens just like yours and my 3 of the same.

Agreed, pretty little partridge-based Easter Eggers. The chick in that photo may grow up to look very similar to the EE hen in my avatar. As for personality, they are a little more flighty than say brahmas. Especially as chicks. I had two that were absolutely convinced every time I looked at them were convinced I was going to turn them inside out or something. But all chicks seem to go through a phase where they are terrified of you, even if they were previously friendly and happy to be held. About the time they get to laying age they often start to mellow out again. My EE hen is one of the friendliest. She doesn't stand in line to be picked up or anything, but she does allow my 2 year old to catch her and carry her around (awkwardly) the yard.
