What is this Duck thinking

I am sorry for the late response to your post.  It would be fun if your berds could sleep next to you rather than be outside in the elements eating mud.  I totally understand you wanting to hold them.  I feel that way about my finches.  They're so cute and soft.  During the times I do hold one of them I am in oxytocin and dopamine heaven because they are so soft and warm.  I kiss their little heads.

Lilian is all the above as you described her.  She is very innocent for sure.  That is what I always tell my birds.  That they are so innocent.  Lilian is still on my phone and I always squeeee at the sight of her cute round lil bod.

So when you say couples won't share their rafts, is that because they just want one all to their selves?  Like, we're mates here and want our precious space and privacy?  SO sweet!!!

That's okay I take a few days to reply sometimes too. My rabbits love cuddles and they are super fluffy. I get crazy from all the cuteness. Your finches sound like adorable little burds .

Lilian has something about her that makes her so adorable. When she was still a baby her mother would leave her alone for days and she hung out with another duck and later she was all alone. I think she wanted to join my group but she didn't dare to come.

Maybe it is a pecking order thing? Or the drake wants to protect his girl.

The tarp is around the unused straw so it doesn't get rain / snow on it. I was outside with the ducks and Noir went around behind the deck benches that the food is in - no big deal. So I am watching the other ducks interacting (I am on a project to figure out the exact pecking order - I know 80% of it, but there are a couple ducks that haven't interacted directly enough for me to tell if one is above the other). Then I hear the delighted sounds of runner joy: this is a high speed giggle that I have only heard come from the runners. The other ducks do a similar sound sometimes at about 1/2 speed, but not as fast and long and full of elation as runners do it. Well, I have to see what is up. Noir opened up that flap of tarp, climbed in it and was noodling the virgin straw inside the tarp - chattering with the greatest joy her heart could feel.

She was probably hiding a bit too. She and Dove share the bottom rung of the current pecking order.

Oh, how I wish I could hear those sounds! I found a video, is this the noise? It's so cute, she's trilling and ducking her head to the side just like Bean does! I guess it's a female suck thing...I wonder what it means?

And I feel so terribly for poor Noir, I hate when any animal has to suffer cuz of some sort of pack or flock caste system, but with ducks it especially hurts. :/

About twice as fast and a third higher

I will see if I can get a recording. Noir doesn't suffer. She's like the bottom guy that everybody likes in the mailroom of a large company. She's on the bottom, but she is well liked and well treated. None of the ducks will peck her just because they can... Only if she cuts them off from their food or some other transgression, then it is only a little friendly reminder peck, not a serious one. The only duck Noir fights with at ALL is Dove and that is because they can't decide who is the bottom duck - even they don't fight much about it - maybe once / week for a couple seconds.

He wants to protect his gurl burd and have privacy. And show her what a big man she is.

I love the idea of cuddly and fluffy rabbits. I think they are so cute. I do lots of hiking in the desert east of the town where I live and I see the little Cottontails running around. They are a small, plump little rabbit and are adorable. I see jackrabbits too but they are not all that cute. They are a long and skinny rabbit but they are so fast. Still fun to see them streaking around.

You are right about Lilian. She does. I bet her personality is amazing. That would add to how cute she is.

EEEEEEEEE - delighted sounds of runner joy. How cute is that!! And even cuter was Noir chortling away in the tarp of straw. What a sweet thing. She was so happy in there and probably pretty proud of herself. That would mean the world of joy to me if I observed that. I'd wanna scoop her up and give her tons of kisses.

So interesting how your flock has an established pecking order. I know they exist in animal kingdoms but to get to see it is pretty cool.
