What is this fruit/tree/bush thing

Does anyone know what this is and if it’s harmful to chickens? I want to build our new run in this area and these are all over. Our three year old thinks they’re dinosaur eggs and if that’s the case we have a really big problem

This one was pretty hard to cut into, I know they do ripen like that reddish one in the original post.

leaf shape does not match the paw paw. Plus, the paw paw fruits grow in a connected hand.

If it is plum, its leaves, wood, and sap should smell like plum.

I agree, looks like Wild Plum also known as American Plum. There is a conservation effort to promote the growing of these plums that were important to indigenous people.
