What is this lump in this egg?

A friend of mine bought some eggs to eat from the store, and one of them had this weird lump in it. She really wants to know what it is (and now I'm curious, too) so I told her I know some experts I can ask What do you guys think? Doesn't look like an embryo to me - the yolk sack is intact and pristine. But WTF else could it be?

I believe they're called meat spots. Doesnt affect the egg. Just pick it out.

I agree, meat spot. A blip along the reproductive track however, I wouldnt eat it. even after picking it out. Not that it would hurt you its just the yuck factor.

Oh! I thought meat spots were smaller... so I didn't even think it could be that. Even that huge? The poor hen must have had a whole hemorrhage in there

Would be good to cut it open...and take more pics....but I'd bet it's an 'immature but dead' ova. Which is basically a big meat spot being it is sloughed off tissue.
