Our buff hen (only had her a couple weeks) goes round with her beak open making a strange noise. None of the others do this, so i was just wondering what it was about?! Its the 'clucking' type sound. Perhaps the others are just quiet?

Then at the weekend our cockeral started making strange new noises too! He is the winy noise that goes from the start to the end of the video.

I've never heard that whining noise before but it is true some hens are more talkative than others. I have one that follows me around the yard and talks to me while I do my chores.

Sounds like normal chicken sounds to me. My rooster usually makes that whirring sound when he thinks he sees a predator or something off. Sometimes he just does it for nothing, he's a weirdo :)

Some hens make a fuss over just laying an egg. She may have just laid one and will hop down or stay put and let out short bursts of cackles to announce that she just laid an egg. Maybe?

Broody hens will run around and make the short little grunts and be fluffed up a bit and very quick with their feet running around. This is another common trait. Maybe?

Like cotton and funky said. Some hens are more vocal than others. Personality traits :) Steve

Thanks for the replies. My only concern was that the hen was in pain with something which was causing her to be vocal....but i guess she is fine and she is acting as normal as she did before hand.

Thanks for the help!
