What is this on chicks rear? **new pics added**

i have had chicks with rough spots there before, sometimes with little hangy things poking out. Best to just let it be and it will resolve itself. Glad you got such informed posts from folks before me.

I have 2 light brahmas, 2 blue cochins, a black frizzle and a white frizzle.

This is what one side of the brooder looks like. I just cleaned up and put down new paper towels. But there is normally chick feed around the feeder on the floor.

Not to be negative but I have had two have that and they both passed away around 5 days old even with vitamins and extra attention.

Tell ya yhe truth, I would soak a cotton ball and put some iodine on it to keep it clean. I am not an expert on chickies but I lost a yorkie pup because germs got in through a not closed unbelical cord. I had no idea but the vet said an infection can set in so fast through the belly due to its warm nature. Puppy only live a day and a half. It won't hurt to do it and it could potentially save it. Maybe the other pp chicks died because they got an infection from germs from a not sealed unbelical cord??

Please no iodine-use betadine. Sorry, CA Bean, I'm not meaning you any disrespect.

Betadine is a dilute form of iodine. When a horse is born, we put betadine on the umbilicus to prevent bacteria from forming.

I would just dab it with betadine like twice a day till it dries up. Bacteria can get in there real fast. Betadine helps skin heal and kills bacteria. I think you want it to dry out, not keep it moist with a cotton ball.
