I have these 2 plants in my run, and for some reason a couple of days ago they just started pecking at it after months of showing no interest in it. And I just realized tonight they've been eating all the leaves!
Do you know what kind of plant it is? Could is be poisonous?

I've now cut it down.

I have no idea what that plant is, but chickens are pretty hardy in general. Hoping the plant is nothing bad!

Although, just to give you some comfort, I have had my birds eat weird shrubs and leaves off of trees and be just fine!

That's good to know. I've only had chickens for 6 months so still experiencing first-time issues!
They like to jump (so adorable) and peck leaves. But you can see that they ended up eating the lower branches bare!:idunno

Wow I think that might be it. I looked up some pics. Thank you!
Mirror bush is not a cold hardy plant, originally from the warmer parts of New Zealand. I don't know that I've seen them growing anywhere in the US but So Cal. Yours looks like it is grown fairly shaded, but they can be VERY red and a stand-out in the garden when grown in a lot of sun. Here is one of mine, behind the Amaryllis:

Obviously, this is not in my chicken area! Too bad you couldn't transplant it.
