What is this spot on the yoke and is my chicken okay?

    Reading other byc posts today is sounds like this is a meat spot but are they usually this big? I have gotten spots on yokes before but they have always been much smaller. Is my chicken okay? Do I need to do in their diet differently or something??? Thanks so much!

    Note: it was attached to the yoke but the yoke broke...

    Yes, that looks like either a meat spot or a blood spot. Lots of chickens get them in their eggs occasionally; as long as this doesn't become frequent, your hens are probably fine. This particular blood/meat spot is larger than is common, but not unheard of.

    Meat spots happen in the white. Blood spots happen in the yolk. And yes, that can be normal. I got one once that looked like a blood smear over the whole yolk. It was bad enough that I tossed the egg.
