Want to know if anyone can tell me what this is that's on my egg? I'm thinking it's some sort of calcium build up, but really not sure if I'm correct? Should I be concerned about the well being of my EE? Why is this happening and how can I fix this problem? Thanks
I think your right about the calcium build-up. I have one that lays eggs that look alot like this. The shells are so thin but there are globs of shell all over the thin shell.
Mine have oyster shell in a dish and so I know it isn't that. Sometimes some chickens lay ugly eggs I think is just the way it is. I would never breed the chicken who lays eggs like this.
You're right, one of my three EE's does the same thing. She's been laying for about a month now and it's starting to get better, but hasn't completly went away yet.
Wow! Thank you all for your quick responses. Glad to hear that there isn't anything seriously wrong with my girl. I too include oyster shells in their feed. Funny thing is, these sort of eggs always have a hard shell even without the oyster being added to her diet. I'm just glad she's healthy, regardless of the look of her egg.
Oh one more question for you all. Would anyone happen to know of a great place to purchase egg cartons online for cheap. I sell the majority of my eggs and the place I have been using seems to be a bit pricey.
YEp just calcium .. if you rub yur finger over it lightly it will come off in lil beads... I think it may be the girls clearing out any excess calcium... I get one a couple times a month.. Just rub it and it will be normal..
