They're not, really. Just a different color chicken; they are both bred to lay lots if big brown eggs

They might, they might not. I've had sex links start laying at the early age of 16 weeks, or not start until 22 weeks.

Yep, statistically, 18 week maturity on the Black Star vs 20 for the Australorp... That's just an average though. At 22 weeks, they should have bright red combs and practicing the egg song by now; any day very soon!
