Without looking it up, can you guess the meaning of each set of the small letters and numbers along the top?

78=?
MO=?
Etc...

There is year and month of expiration, a county or district code, I am guessing that is the BL

I would assume the 12 refers to the type of vehicle it is valid for. Many states use to do that before they went to colored plates for codes or coded prefexes...

78 = year of expiration
MO = state issued
12 = is up to 12000 pounds
JULY = month of issue / expiration

I'm drawing a blank on the exact meaning of BL, I thought it would be something you could look up, but I'm not finding it....

basically it means commercial or non passenger vehicle...

This recently came up with a friend who farms and hauls grain, so he was quizzing me to see if I knew... I think he told me what BL translated to but I can't recall...I said 78 was the year issued (rather than expired) so I was wrong on the first one.:rolleyes:

I am thinking the BL is not the county. In our collection of license plates from my late FIL, we have a couple with BL and we don't live in the same county as Ozark Biddies.

Mo has some strange rules, also not requiring rear plates on trucks
https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/missouri-rear-license-plates.349828/
Mn permits no rear plate on truck/tractor that normally pulls a trailer. Like a semi,,

The gross weight allowed (licensed weight) is on a Sticker with the year of expiration. It is coded with an letter,,,

When I was working I use to know all of them,, but with retirement comes forgetfulness...besides I doubt I will ever write a ticket again.
