What is this?

OK, so it's obvious what this is. It's a chicken. He's about 16" tall, 24" wide, and weighs about 50 lbs. He's hollow cast iron. What was he used for?

Not a door stop. I will ask DH about the wing hole when he gets in.

The hole was there when it was made. The base was "just a rectangular piece of cast iron" (From DH)

It served a purpose.

I think it sat on a windmill... but I only think that because of the antiques show on TV... I’ve never seen one in use... or in person for that matter

Hmmm... how did it work?

I never quite understood the concept... and can’t picture what the hole was for...

The hole on the side is just from when it was cast. The weight sat up on the top of the windmill to help balance the "fan" part of it. The weight sat on what could be called the tail.
