According to that article the silver sulfadiazine is better at treating very serious infections I’d use it. You can use the tweezers to pull off the scab or just try and pull it off with your finger nail. Once you get the scab off get a pic of what’s inside. More than likely you’ll need the tweezers to get the infection out.
I would stop the silver sulfadiazine and use plain Neosporin, you might get better results, I'm treating one of my chickens for bumblefoot, I used both Silvadine and Neosporin and got better results from Neosporin.
Also try to debride (scrape out the bad tissue) the wound and then soak in epsom salt bath and fill the entire space with Neosporin and gauze and vet wrap. It's important to keep it as clean as possible.
