What is this??

So now my BLR Wyandotte hen has raised scales on her foot...

I noticed this today, but it was not like this earlier in the week. She walks around eating and acting normal, no redness or swelling present. Would Epsom salt foot baths treat this? Is this fungal or something else?? I have no clue what this is.

Scaly feet mites. Put petroleum jelly or vegetable oil to smother the mites. Takes a while for the foot scales to get back to normal

x2 Scaly leg mites. I would coat the legs in Vaseline or bag balm. Also clean out the bedding in the coop.

So should I put Vaseline on her 4 coopmates? They are Faverolles thus have feathered legs. How many times should I apply Vaseline?? Also, the coop is sand minus the egg boxes.

It is best to put it on all the birds, since it could spread/ is spread to them already. Put it on at least once a day for 2 weeks

Ok, will do. Plus I have Poultry Protector spray, going to clean out the egg boxes and use that. What will prevent them from coming back?

I think it will do. Clean out the coop entirely and spray a permethrin based spray to kill any mites or eggs in the coop. Good luck!

Thanks. Now I just put sand in 2 weeks ago, will that all have to go as well??? Thought sand helped deter mites. Also, how do I keep them from returning?? My egg boxes were PDZ and sand, they are already cleaned out and sprayed, although the spray has potassium sorbate as the active ingredient. Will that suffice?? The other ingredients are water, yeast amd citric acid.

Thanks, just curious if I also need to dump all the sand I put in two weeks ago?? Also, if I dump it out on the ground near the coop, will the mites still be an issue??

I think the sand should be fine, no need to replace. Any shavings or organic materials should be removed and everything washed out with vinegar water or bleach water and dried out. Spray permethrin spray on the sand if you want to and in the henhouse and wait until it dries. Put new bedding in. The permethrin isn't nessacary, spray it if you want to. This spray is should be good, this is a concentrate, there are instructions to make the mix.
